Reporting Misconduct:

St. Peter’s Preschool & Kindergarten conducts an employment history check before employing instructional personnel/school administrators in any position that requires direct contact with students.
St. Peter’s Preschool & Kindergarten disqualifies from employment any instructional personnel or school administrator who is convicted of an act listed under Section 1012.315, Florida Statutes. [Level 2 VECHS fingerprinting (which includes FBI – national, and FDLE – state searches) is utilized to meet this standard.]
All St. Peter’s Preschool & Kindergarten administrators, teachers, and staff members have been fully screened and background checked pursuant to state law. In addition, as an added measure of safety and concern for our students, volunteers who are permitted to enter the campus during school hours are required to undergo background clearance as well.
St. Peter’s Preschool & Kindergarten administration and staff are required to undergo training on the following standards as a condition of employment.

 

Child Abuse Reporting and Employee Misconduct

All employees and administrators have an obligation to report misconduct by instructional personnel and school administrators which affects the health, safety, or welfare of a student. Examples include, but are not limited to, obscene language, drug and alcohol use, disparaging comments, prejudice, sexual innuendo, cheating, testing violations, physical aggression, and accepting or offering favors. Reports of misconduct of employees should be made to the School Director (Shannon Harshbarger- sharshbarger@splm.org 407.333.1707) or the Rector of St. Peter’s Church (Fr. Jeremy Bergstrom frjeremy@splm.org 407.444.5673). Reports of misconduct by administrators should be made to the Rector of St. Peter’s Church (Fr. Jeremy Bergstrom Frjeremy@splm.org 407.444.5673) or the Chairperson of the School Executive Committee (Sandy Robinson- sandyatt1@gmail.com 407.444.5673).
All employees have an affirmative duty to report all actual or suspected cases of child abuse, abandonment, or neglect. Signs include, but are not limited to, unexplained cuts, bruises, burns, or other injuries, withdrawn or depressed personality, a fear of home or specific person, inappropriate clothing to hide injuries, trouble walking or sitting, pain or itching in genital area, unusual knowledge of sex, unattended medical needs, poor hygiene, frequently tired or hungry, or appear underweight.
Policies concerning reporting misconduct of employees and reporting suspected child abuse are found in the employee handbook and discussed in teacher trainings during the required preplanning training sessions each year. Any suspected case of child abuse should be reported to 1.800.96.ABUSE.

 

Liability Protections

Any person, official, or institution participating in good faith in any act authorized or required by law, or reporting in good faith any instance of child abuse, abandonment or neglect, shall be immune from any civil or criminal liability which might otherwise result by reason of such activity (F.S.39.203)
Any employer who discloses information about a former or current employee to a prospective employer of the former or current employee upon request of the prospective employer or of the former of current employee is immune from civil liability for such disclosure or its consequences unless it is shown by clear and convincing evidence that the information disclosed by the former or current employer was knowingly false or violated any civil right of the former or current employee protected under F.S. 760.095.
